Iga Swiatek v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
The only time they met previously was at the Adelaide International final this year, with Swiatek winning in straight sets.

Swiatek Survives Another Three-Setter
A couple of days after fighting back from a set down to beat Fiona Ferro, Iga Swiatek was once again forced to play a three-setter, this time against the Cleveland Open champion Anett Kontaveit. But the world No. 8 was equal to her task as she edged out the Estonian 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 17 minutes.
The first two sets were fiercely competitive, but it was the 20-year-old Polish player who ran away with the third to reach the Round of 16 in New York for the first time. The 2020 French Open champion, also reached the fourth rounds of the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, along with the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
Swiatek had 20 chances to break the Estonian in the match and she took six of them, in contrast Kontaveit converted four of eight break points, but she had none in the final set. Overall, the seventh seed struck 32 winners, five less than Kontaveit. However, when it came to unforced errors, Swiatek had just 27 compared to Kontaveit’s 35.
A winner in Adelaide and Rome this season, Swiatek hadn’t come into the tournament in great form, but she started off well against qualifier Jamie Loeb, beating the American in straight sets. In the second round, Ferro gave her a real scare, but after closing out the second set in a tie-break to stay alive, she just ran away with the contest, bagelling the Frenchwoman.

Bencic Powers Past Pegula
Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic continued her solid run at the U.S. Open, overpowering a third opponent to reach the fourth round of the tournament for a third time. A semifinalist in 2019 and a quarterfinalist in 2014, the Swiss needed just an hour and 14 minutes to dispatch the No. 23 seed Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-4.
Off to a flying start with two early breaks of serve, Bencic lost serve at 4-1, but she restore her two break advantage immediately in the next game before serving out the first set.
The Swiss began the second set by breaking Pegula and then had three match points on the American’s serve at 5-3, but couldn’t convert any of those. Serving for the match at 5-4, she won the game to love and ended Pegula’s resistance to move into the next round.
A quarterfinalist in Cincinnati this year, Bencic had ousted Arantxa Rus 6-4, 6-4 in the first round and Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1 in the second. Serving well throughout the first three rounds, Bencic has been broken just twice the entire week.
Swiatek v Bencic Prediction and Tip
The last time they met, it was a one-sided affair with Swiatek dominating. This time the Polish player can expect a tougher challenge, given the way Bencic has been demolishing her opponents. Swiatek meanwhile has had to work hard for her last two wins. Expect a very good contest, with form slightly favouring Bencic.
