Karolina Pliskova v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head

Pliskova holds a 6-2 lead over her Russian adversary, last defeating her in 2018. Since then, Pavlyuchenkova has won the two meetings – including the one as recently as the Madrid Open this season without dropping a set.

Pliskova Breezes Past Tomljanovic

After surviving that three-set thriller against Amanda Anisimova – a game that saw her save a match point in the final-set tiebreak, Karolina Pliskova bounced back with a clinical straight-set win over Ajla Tomljanovic.

The World No. 4 needed just 72 minutes to reach the fourth round with 6-3, 6-2 – Pliskova dished out an impressive 20 aces, 33 winners and won 91% of her first service points.

The 29-year-old is on the path to emulate her performance from this year’s Wimbledon where she was the finalist. But she finds herself in a tricky bracket with matches set to get progressively difficult as she proceeds. That said, the reigning Italian Open and Canadian Open runner-up has never shied from a challenge and remains one of the favourites to go the distance in the US Open.

Pliskova is 10-2 in the North American swing with a semifinal feat at Cincinnati being her most recent accomplishment. A runner-up here in 2016, she has the experience and the pedigree needed to reach the quarters once again.

Pavlyuchenkova Reaches R16 for the First Time in 11 Years

In what is certainly in line with a career-revival season for the World No. 15, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova reached the fourth round at the Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2010.

In all those editions since then, the Russian had never made it past this stage (barring the 2011 season when she was the quarterfinalist) in New York. But considering the spell she has had in 2021, this feat hardly seems surprising.

The French Open finalist defeated the likes of Alison Riske and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the early rounds, In round three, she met her compatriot Varvara Gracheva and knocked her out 6-1, 6-4, in an hour and 42 minutes.

Interestingly, Pavlyuchenkova’s track record in hard-court tournaments this season has been less than impressive with a couple of round of 16 appearances in Melbourne events marking her best results. But the 30-year-old is equipped to take Pliskova head-on and improve those statistics.

Pliskova v Pavlyuchenkova Prediction and Tip

Pliskova has a much better chance of reaching the quarterfinal, especially in light of the year she has had.

She will start as the favourite but if Pavlyuchenkova finds her rhythm soon, she may very well be in trouble. Expect an entertaining game of tennis.
