Kristina Mladenovic v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

Konjuh leads 2-1 head to head, having beaten Mladenovic in Tokyo in 2015 and the Australian Open in 2017.  She had to retire from their third contest in Madrid in 2017 with both players tied at one-set all.

Mladenovic Tested in First Round

Kristina Mladenovic was tested by wild card Nika Radisic in the first round on Monday, as she had to rally from a set down to win the contest in an hour and 55 minutes.

The Slovenian player had three breaks in the first set, one more than her more accomplished opponent, as she took a one-set-to-love lead. The Frenchwoman, however, came back into the contest with four breaks of serve in the second and three breaks in the third, while getting broken just once each in the final two sets, to wrap up the contest 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Mladenovic will now be aiming for a fourth quarterfinal berth this season, having reached that stage in Lyon, Nottingham and Chicago.

A former No. 10, Mladenovic has struggled for most parts of this season, and a 20-25 record from all her matches, including qualifiers, is a reflection of that. She has also seen a decline in the rankings; she began the year as No. 50, but is currently ranked No. 68th in the world.

Konjuh Rallies Past Vekic

Bagelled in the first set, World No. 82 Ana Konjuh of Croatia bounced back to knock out compatriot Donna Vekic in the first round on Monday.

Vekic had as many as 18 break points in the match, but Konjuh saved 14 of them, while capitalising on four of eight breaking opportunities to win the one-hour-and-55-minute contest 0-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The win improved the 23-year-old former world No. 20 to 38-19 across levels this season.

A runner-up at the Serbia Open this year, Konjuh, who returned to the tour in 2021 after three years of struggles with injuries and surgery, was also a semifinalist in San Jose last month.

On Wednesday, the Croatian will be looking to make her fourth quarterfinal on the tour this season, having also reached the last eight in Istanbul.

Mladenovic v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

Both players had to overcome a first-set deficit in the opening round and both spent exactly the same time on court to dispatch their first-round opponents.

Konjuh, although ranked lower than Mladenovic at the moment, will hold the edge in this contest. She has been more successful than the Frenchwoman this year and should win this match in straight sets.
