James Duckworth has had a pretty good year so far, which has seen him deliver his best-ever performances in many tournaments, including the grand slams.
The 29-year-old Australian reached the third round of a major for the first time in his career at Wimbledon and also passed the opening round test at Roland Garros for the first time.
Duckworth, who prefers playing on hard courts, also made maiden third round appearances at the Miami Open and the Canadian Open, which were his best-ever showings at ATP 1000 tournaments. Some of the players he beat this year include David Goffin in Miami and Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz in Toronto.
Duckworth brings an overall season record of 12-13 to the tournament, which includes an 8-9 record on hard courts.
Yet to reach an ATP final, the Aussie lost to Fernando Verdasco in the first round in Nur Sultan Last year.

Kukushkin Has Struggled this Season
Former World No. 39 Mikhail Kukushkin was a quarterfinalist in Nur Sultan last year.
The 33-year-old big-serving Kazakh hasn’t been in best of forms this year, bringing in a 3-11 record to the tournament.
Most recently, Kukushkin, who has delivered some of his best results on hard courts, reached the second round of the Tokyo Olympics and found a way to reach the main draw of the U.S. Open as a lucky loser.
The Nur Sultan resident, who is a one-time champion and a three-time runner-up on the tour, defeated Federico Delbonis and Benoit Paire in the first two rounds in Nur Sultan last year, but fell in the quarterfinals to Emil Ruusuvuori.
