Rinderknech Enjoying a Breakthrough Season

Rinderknech has enjoyed something of a breakthrough season on the senior tour in 2021, rising more than one hundred places in the world rankings, and is now an established top 100 player.

He began the year strongly by winning a Challenger event in Istanbul in January, and then, on home soil, came through qualifying in Marseille to reach the third round. He also reached the third round in Lyon, and qualified for Wimbledon for the first time, only to suffer an opening round defeat,

Back on clay, two more third round appearances followed, in Bastad and Gstaad, and he went one better in Kitzbuhel where he reached the semi-final stage before losing to Casper Ruud.

He then made his US Open debut, beating Miomir Kuzmanovic of Serbia in the first round, before losing in four sets to the Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz.

Last week he entered the Challenger event in Rennes, reaching the semi-finals again, only to lose to compatriot Benjamin Bonzi.

Giron, a Solid Performer on Tour

Giron has been a solid performer on tour for a number of years, although he has yet to appear in any senior finals, hs successes coming on the junior tours, where he has won both singles and doubles events, although none for two years.

Nevertheless, with several other higher ranked players choosing to stay away, he was picked to represent his country at the Olympics, where he got to the second round before losing to local favourite Kei Nishikori.

Switching to the North American hard court circuit, he reached the second round in Washington, but then failed to qualify for Toronto, and lost in the first round in Cincinnati.

He did much better in Winston Salem, getting to the quarter-finals before losing to Alcaraz, and he would have been hoping for a  deep run in his home Grand Slam.

However, having beaten a French qualifier in the first round of the US Open, he then lost to Dan Evans of Great Britain in four sets.
