Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

Pavlyuchenkova and Konjuh have featured in just one career, head-to-head meeting till date. They ran into each other in the first round of the Kremlin Cup in 2014, with the Russian prevailing in straight sets.

Pavlyuchenkova Resumes after US Open Fourth Round Loss

After recording her maiden runner-up finish at Roland-Garros this year, Pavlyuchenkova fell short of expectations at the Wimbledon Championships as she crashed in the third round to Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic.

The current World No.13 didn’t have the best of preparations going into the US Open, as she couldn’t go beyond the third round at the Canadian Open, her only tune-up event ahead of the year’s last Grand Slam.

Opening her campaign at the Louis Armstrong stadium against Alison Riske of the US, the Russian cantered to a straight-set win. She followed up her opening-round win with a labored victory Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia in her next.

The win saw her set up a third-round meeting with fellow countrywoman Varvara Gracheva. Pavlyuchenkova bossed her compatriot from start to finish to come away with a facile 6-1, 6-4 victory.

However, the Russian ran out of steam in her pre-quarters clash against seasoned Czech star Karolina Pliskova, going down in straight sets to crash out of the tournament.

In her first event since the US Open exit, Pavlyuchenkova would launch her Ostrava campaign against feisty Croat Ana Konjuh.

Though the Russian won their only previous meeting at the Kremlin Cup back in 2014, Konjuh is back in the swing of things after overcoming persistent injury struggles and won’t be a pushover in this first-round battle.

Konjuh Beats Pera in Ostrava Qualifiers

A hugely-promising teen tennis starlet before persistent injury struggles put her out of action for a long stretch and threatened to cut her career short, Konjuh has rose from her setbacks stronger than ever and is back in the grind of competitive tennis.

After a stunning upset victory over 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek, the 77th-ranked Croat gave other notable performances this season, topping which was a run to the final of the Serbia Open which tragically ended in a walkover win for her rival, Paula Badosa of Spain. She also finished in the last four at the Silicon Valley Classic.

Coming into the Slovenia Open after a first-round loss at the US Open to eventual runner-up Leylah Fernandez, Konjuh opened her campaign with an impressive, come-from-behind win over fellow countrywoman Donna Vekic.

However, she was trounced in her next by Kristina Mladenovic of France, resulting in a last-16 finish.

With a point to prove at the Ostrava Open, Konjuh will launch her campaign against Pavlyuchenkova on Tuesday. Though she lost their only previous head-to-head meeting, the Croat, at her best, could be more than a handful for her top rivals.

Pavlyuchenkova v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

While her superior ranking and head-to-head record against Konjuh will give Pavlyuchenkova a slight edge going into this first-round clash, the Croat has the game to spring a nasty surprise on her.
