Alexander Bublik v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the World no. 34 Bublik and World No. 60 Kecmanovic.

Bublik Looking to Recapture Early Season Form

This has by far been the best year for Bublik’s professional career and the Kazkh will be looking to dish out a few more impressive results before the season comes to an end. One glorious opportunity is to impress at home in Nur Sultan, where the second seed will begin his campaign on Wednesday in the second round against Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic.

The World No. 34, who received a first-round bye, was defeated by Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the tournament last year. This year he brings a 29-24 season record to the tournament, thanks largely to the terrific first quarter, which saw him reach the finals in Antalya and Singapore and make quarterfinal debut at an ATP 1000 event in Miami.

Bublik who 6-0 in Challenger finals is however0-4 at the senior level, having lost both his finals this year. While he was forced to retire after just two games in Antalya against Alex de Minaur, he was beaten by Alexei Popyrin in three in Singapore.

He carried his impressive hard court form to clay, reaching the quarterfinals in Madrid and did well on grass as well, making the semifinals in Newport. Since that run in Newport, has has been a bit out of form, going 3-6 from six hard court tournaments. It will be interesting to see if he can arrest the slide at home.

Kecmanovic Eases Past Verdasco

Kecmanovic began his Astana Open campaign in style, easing past Spain’s Fernando Verdasco in straight sets on Monday.

The Serbian broke the Spaniard once in the first and thrice in the second, while getting broken just once in the second for a 6-4, 6-2 win in an hour and 23 minutes. Kecmanovic won 70% of his service points and 52% points on return in a dominating performance.

The win improved the 22-year-old World no. 60 to 13-20 this season, and ended a five-match losing streak which began with a second-round defeat to Ugo Humbert at the Tokyo Olympics.

It’s largely been a year of struggle for Kecmanovic, who reached the semifinals in Buenos Aires and the quarterfinals in Melbourne-1 and Belgrade but made early exits from most of the other tournaments.

Winner of the Kitzbuhel title last year, the Serb has a decent 36-37 record on hard surfaces. He had received a first-round bye in Nur Sultan last year but fell in the second round to Frances Tiafoe. With the losing streak snapped, can he now build on the start that he has had in the tournament?

Bublik v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Bublik will be the favourite. He is the second seed, the higher-ranked player and also has been in far better form than Kecmanovic. Plus, he also has the home advantage. Expect the Kazakh to advance to a seventh quarterfinal this season.
