Gael Monfils v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head
Monfils and Kohlschreiber have featured in no less than 16 career, head-to-head meetings till date, with the Frenchman holding a commanding 14-2 lead over the German. They last met in the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters in 2019, with Monfils prevailing in straight sets.

Coming into the US Open on the back of a quarter-final finish at the Canadian Open and a run to the last 16 at the Cincinnati Masters, Monfils had hopes of going deep in the tournament and even lifting his maiden Grand Slam.
He opened his campaign with an encouraging straight-set victory over Argentine Federico Coria and followed up with a labored four-set win over Steve Johnson of the US.
However, he couldn’t go past rising Italian star Jannik Sinner in his next, as the latter fought off a spirited challenge from the veteran Frenchman to come through in five sets.
With another Grand Slam campaign ending in disappointment as many have over the years, Monfils would play his first event since the Flushing Meadows, the Moselle Open, in the hope of going all the way.
And, standing between him and a place in the third round is seasoned German star Philipp Kohlschreiber. Veterans on the men’s circuit, they have been paired against each other a number of times.
While Monfils holds a commanding head-to-head lead over the German in career meetings, he would do well not to drop his guard going into the match on Thursday.

Kohlschreiber Overcomes Cecchinato in Opener
A seasoned and experienced campaigner, Kholschreiber put behind the disappointment of his second-round loss to veteran Spaniard Pablo Andujar to clear the qualifiers at the Moselle Open.
He recorded two wins back-to-back over Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan and young Dane Holger Rune to secure passage to the main tournament draw.
Opening his campaign proper against Italian Marco Cecchinato, the German fought hard and kept his levels up to come through in straight sets.
Though he had to fight off a stiff resistance from the Italian in the opening set, which went to a tiebreak and eventually fell in the German’s favor, Kohlschreiber raised the level of his game by a fair few notches to prevail in straight sets.
The German will now face old enemy Gael Monfils for a place in round three. He trails significantly on head-to-head count against the Frenchman and will have to clear another stern test if he has go deeper in the tournament.
Monfils v Kohlschreiber Prediction and Tip
Though the head-to-head record puts Monfils at a clear advantage over Kohlschreiber going into this second-round match, the German would be keen to get his own back at the Frenchman this time.
