Hubert Hurkacz v Lucas Pouille Head to Head
The two players have met thrice on the ATP Tour and Hurkacz, not so surprisingly, leads 2-1. Their last meeting took place in ATP Tokyo in 2019 where Pouille stunned the Pole in straight sets.

Looking to conclude a season set on the foundation of Challenger and ATP events, Lucas Pouille started his campaign in Moselle with a three-set win over the 233rd-ranked Canadian qualifier Brayden Schnur.
Pouille needed two hours to win the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, following a minor hiccup in the first set.
The former World No. 10 will now face the top seed Hurkacz and in all likelihood, the chances of him reaching the next round look a bit slim. Even though the 27-year-old is a talented player, his tryst with lack of form and momentum may just prove to be his downfall on Thursday.
Having spent the entirety of the last season recovering from an elbow injury, World No. 142 Pouille has had a muted spell in 2021 – far behind from where he used to be. Following a litany of early-round exits throughout the year (understandably so as he seemed to have lost his touch), he found some reprieve in the Cassis Challenger where he reached the final.

Hurkacz, Starting with a Bye into Round Two
World No. 13 Hubert Hurkacz will be pleased with the season he has had so far in 2021.
Having started the year outside the top 30, he broke through after winning the titles at the Delray Beach Open and Miami Open. In fact, in Miami, the 24-year-old beat the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev en route to the trophy.
His other exploits include a semifinal run in Wimbledon (upsetting Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer) and a quarterfinal appearance in the Canadian Masters.
Hurkacz’s last event was the US Open where he fell in round two to Andreas Seppi. Here in Moselle, the top seed will look make amends for it by going the distance.
Hubi is also playing in the doubles here with Jan Zieliński and has already booked himself a place in the semis.
Hurkacz v Pouille Prediction and Tip
Hurkacz has already proven his pedigree on hard courts this season. Considering the year he has had, he will start as the overwhelming favourite and shouldn’t face any major difficulties in upsetting the French wildcard.
