Karen Khachanov v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head
In their one and only meeting on the ATP Tour – the first round of the 2019 Australian Open, Khachanov emerged as the winner 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.

Gojowczyk Building on US Open Success
Peter Gojowczyk started in Moselle Open as a qualifier and moved past Luca Van Assche and Antoine Hoang to reach the main draw. There, he beat Hoang once again (who had gotten through under the Lucky Loser provision) with 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to set up the clash with Khachanov.
Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have pegged the 32-year-old as an equal contender to Khachanov (largely in part to the contrasting spells they have had on the whole), but the fact that he just delivered his best Grand Slam performance warrants a consideration.
Before travelling to Moselle, Gojowczyk featured in the US Open where he reached the fourth round as a qualifier to post his best major showing in his long career. Boosted by that confident run, he will now look to deliver something similar this week.
And then there is also the fact that Gojowczyk’s one and the only title came right here in the Moselle Open in 2017.
Some may even argue that the German has a proclivity to perform in French tournaments. Earlier in the season, he was a semifinalist in the Quimper Challenger and later, reached the same round in the ATP Montpellier – these events also mark the key moments of his 2021 season.

Khachanov, Off to Rusty Start
Number 7 seed Karen Khachanov needed two hours to beat the French qualifier, #203-ranked Alexandre Muller 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Once a top 10 player, the Russian’s form has taken a sharp hit in 2021 as he now finds himself to be the World No. 27. It is a pity that Olympic events don’t account much for ranking points as Khachanov won the silver in Tokyo this summer (losing to Alexander Zverev in the final).
That, alongside a quarterfinal appearance in Wimbledon and ATP Rotterdam, and a couple of 1/2 rounds in Lyon and Melbourne, were among the highs of his current season. In the US Open series, he was beaten in the opening rounds in Cincinnati and New York.
The 2018 Paris Masters champion will hope for a better turnaround in Moselle but it is going to be challenging, no doubt.
Khachanov v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip
This match has all the makings of being a three-setter that can pretty much go either way. But on paper, the safe bet would be Khachanov to win in three.
