Marcos Giron v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head
It will be a first tour-level meeting between the two. They met once at a lower level 11 years ago, with Gojowczyk winning that contest.

Giron Upsets De Minaur
Marcos Giron knocked out the fourth seed Alex de Minaur on Thursday to reach a third quarterfinal of the season.
The American dominated the early exchanges, racing to a 5-1 lead in the first set, but found it difficult to close out the set as the World No. 21 came roaring back, winning the next four games in a row. Giron, finally held serve again to go up 6-5 and then broke the Aussie a third time in the set to draw first blood.
The second set was even closer. Giron squandered a match point while leading 4-5 (30-40) on de Minaur’s serve, but he eventually converted the second in the tiebreak to wrap-up the contest 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in an hour and 51 minutes.
Giron had an even tougher first round victory, when he needed to come back from a set down to beat France’s Arthur Rinderknech 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Thursday’s win means that the American is now 17-16 in 2021 and 11-10 on his preferred hard court. Can Giron reach a first ATP semifinal?

Gojowczyk Stuns Khachanov
Peter Gojowczyk’s impressive run in the tournament continued as the German made it to his third tour-level quarterfinal this season.
The World No. 101, who reached the semifinals in Montpellier and the quarterfinals in Newport, dumped out the seventh seed Russian with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory.
Gojowczyk saved both the break points that he faced in the match, while converting one of two to secure the win over the Olympic silver medalist in an hour and 24 minutes.
The 32-year-old, who is 12-7 this season following Thursday’s win, had beaten French lucky loser Antoine Hoang 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the first round. It was the German’s second win over Hoang within a space of two days, as he had beaten the Frenchman in the second qualifying round to make it to the main draw. Gojowczyk had defeated another Frenchman, Luca Van Assche in the first qualifying round on Sunday.
Metz is the only place where he has won an ATP title in his career, defeating Benoit Paire in the final in 2017. He reached two more finals the following year only to finish runner-up. Gojowczyk had struggled on all surfaces over the last two years, but has regained form this season, which also saw him reach the fourth round of the U.S. Open, his best-ever Grand Slam result.
Giron v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip
Giron is the higher ranked player and many may have him as their favourite, but remember Gojowczyk is a past champion, he is more experienced and has settled into a good rhythm. Expect the German to win and advance to another semifinal.
