Anett Kontaveit v Madison Brengle Head to Head

Kontaveit holds a 3-0 lead over Brengle, last beating her in the 2018 French Open in three sets.

Kontaveit, on a Trailblazing Run

Anett Kontaveit will be arriving in Chicago after winning the J&T Banka Ostrava Open on Sunday.

In what has been a stellar week for the 25-year-old, she defeated Sorana Cirstea, Paula Badosa, Belinda Bencic, Petra Kvitova, and Maria Sakkari to win her third singles title of the season (her second one in the last three tournaments). Impressively, Kontaveit did all this without as much as dropping a single set.

She is in red hot form, having conquered WTA Cleveland in August and following it with a third-round appearance at the US Open. Earlier in the season, Kontaveit was also a finalist in the Eastbourne International and Grampians Trophy (the latter was shared with Ann Li as the final was cancelled).

By the looks of it, the number 11 seed is well on her way to cap the season on a high note. That said, the draw in Chicago is a lot more demanding as players like Elina Svitolina, Bianca Andreescu, Garbine Muguruza, and other top stars feature in the field.

Brengle, Seeking Solace in Chicago

World No. 90 Madison Brengle will be featuring in Chicago on the back of an entirely opposite performance to that of her Estonian counterpart.

Featuring in a host of ITF and WTA events, Brengle’s season hasn’t entirely gone as per the plan as she struggles to deliver. Her highlights include reaching the final at the ITF Charleston and a third-round appearance in Wimbledon.

In more recent weeks, the 31-year-old featured in the semifinal at WTA 125 Concord while in her last tournament in Colombus, she reached the quarterfinal before succumbing to Xinyu Wang. Needless to say, Brengle is not among the most consistent performers on the WTA Tour – also evident by the fact that she hasn’t won a singles title since turning pro in 2005.

Kontaveit v Brengle Prediction and Tip

Kontaveit has a long journey to make from Ostrava to Chicago and keeping jet lag and other issues aside, she will start as the favourite. But Brengle can very well take advantage of this sudden change in scenery and look to make life difficult for the Estonian.

Expect an intriguing game of tennis, one where Kontaveit is pegged to win in straight sets.
