Elena Rybakina v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, and Rybakina has won on both occasions. Their first match was in the quarter-finals of St. Petersburg three years ago, and more recently they clashed in the second round of Ostrava just a  week ago.

Rybakina Missed Out on Olympic Medal

Rybakina lost the bronze medal match to Elina Svitolina at the Olympics, and, since then, has struggled to make significant inroads in any event she has entered, reaching the third round in Cincinnati, the US Open, and in Ostrava last week.

She was given a first round bye courtesy of her seeding, earning her a second round match with Aleksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, the world number 106.

Rybakina was the first to get a foothold in the match with an early break, but Sasnovich hit back straight away to level.  However, Rybakina broke her once more and, although both players had further break point opportunities, the Kazakh went on to take the set.

In the second set, both players tightened up their game, and it went with serve until, having saved two break points, Rybakina forced another break of her own. She was able to serve out to love.

Kudermetova Beats Two Qualifiers to Reach This Stage

Like Rybakina, Kudermetova just missed out on Olympic medal success beaten in the play-off of the doubles with partner Elena Vesnina.

However, she has already won this year on American soil, having clinched the Charleston Open title on clay in April.

She was given an all-Russian meeting in the first round with the qualifier Anna Kalinskaya, and was made to dig deep to beat the world number 151, only winning the first set on a tie-break, and then dropping the second set. Fortunately for her, she was able to regroup and won the third comparatively easily.

In the second round she faced another qualifier in the shape of Harriet Dart of Great Britain, the world number 141, and she proved to be an opponent more to her liking.

Kudermetova took control of the match with an early break and followed it up with a second. Dart recovered one of them but it was not enough and the Russian claimed the set.

The pair swapped breaks early in the second set, but then Dart dropped her serve again and that proved to be decisive as the Russian was able to fend off her attempts at a fightback.

Rybakina v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

In the case of this match, there is the advantage of a recent comparative form guide, because the pair played each other only last week, and Rybakina won that match in straight sets, She will start the clear favourite to repeat that feat.
