Casper Ruud v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between both players on the tour. Their only meeting was on the clay of the Rome Masters in 2020 which Ruud won in straight sets.

Ruud Hopes To End Breakthrough Season In Turin
Casper Ruud, who has reached a career-high ranking of 1o, has won four titles this year, all on clay, and headed to the Laver Cup last weekend with a 16-3 record from his last 19 completed matches.
Since Wimbledon, the Norwegian went on a winning spree, winning three consecutive titles at the Swedish Open, Swiss Open and the Austrian Open all on clay.
What was more heartening for Ruud was be that he has also hit some good form on the North American hard courts recently. He was a quarterfinalist in Toronto and repeated the fate the following week in Cincinnati defeating Reilly Opelka and Diego Schwartzman along the way.
However, it was a disappointing US Open for him with a second round loss against Dutch qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp who went on to make the final eight.
After a resounding win on the hard courts of the Laver Cup defeating Opelka, Ruud was up against veteran Andy Murray in the second round here.
Ruud hit some good form but the gritty Briton never goes away without a fight as the Norwegian won a well contested match 7-5,6-4, giving plenty for Murray to be proud of in his post match interview.
Sonego In Excellent Touch in San Diego
World No. 23 Lorenzo Sonego of Italy eased past Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili in the opening round of the San Diego Open as he beat the World No. 34, 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 20 minutes.
Hard courts are not Sonego’s forte and while he thrived on the other surfaces, winning a title on clay in Sardegna and reaching the semifinals of the Rome Masters alongwith finishing runner-up in Eastbourne, his hard court form remained lacklustre as he brought in a 10-12 season record to San Diego.
Having outplayed a pretty good hard court player in Basilashvili in the first round, Sonego was high on confidence and continued his strong form against rising American Sebastian Korda in the next round as Sonego pulled off another convincing straight sets win.
Ruud v Sonego Prediction and Tip
Ruud starts as a slight favorite but it will be down to the better player on the bigger points on the given day. Expect Ruud to outlast in-form Sonego in a tight three-setter.
