Rublev Continues Convincing Run
Top seed Andrey Rublev started his campaign at the San Diego Open with a bye into the second round. There, he faced American Brandon Nakashima and defeated him comfortably 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and three minutes.
Rublev then played Argentine number one Diego Schwartzman for the second time in a week, after defeating him last Friday at the Laver Cup in nail-biting ‘LaverBreaker’, i.e. match tiebreak. Having played a week ago played to the Russian’s advantage as he stormed through the first set 6-1. Although Schwartzman matched him well in the second set, Rublev was relentless with his forehand and eventually prevailed 7-5 to book a spot in the final four.
Currently ranked World No. 5 – his best singles ranking yet – Rublev has been promising this season. Even though he has won only one singles title this season (Rotterdam ATP 500), he remains a top contender to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals later this season. Since winning the Rotterdam Open in March, the 23-year-old Russian has reached the final at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Halle Open, and Cincinnati Masters.
Rublev is in his eight semi-final of the season, although he has not won a tournament since Rotterdam and would like to add a title here to his count, as well as boost his confidence ahead of Indian Wells next week and the rest of the ATP season.

Norrie Confident After Shapovalov Victory
Briton Cam Norrie has had an excellent 2021 season overall reaching four tour level finals winning his first career title and reaching an all-time career high ranking of number 28 in the world. In addition, Norrie has performed well on all surfaces.
Norrie reached two finals on clay at Estoril and Lyon, and also finished runner-up on grass at Queen’s club. To top it all, he won his maiden title on the hard courts of Los Cabos in August.
However, his form took a dip thereafter with early losses at Atlanta, Washington, Toronto and Cincinnati making for a disappointing US Open series. At the last major of the year, Norrie ran into Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz, who turned out to be one of the stars of the tournament later. Norrie was routed in straight sets at the New York slam ending his US Open series run.
Playing his first tournament since the US Open, Norrie has worked himself back into form here defeating Dominik Koepfer and Dan Evans in the first two rounds, setting up a quarter-final against Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
It was an excellent display by Norrie against higher ranked Shapovalov, routing him 6-3, 6-1 in what will be considered a noteworthy upset of the week and in turn booking a semi-final spot for himself against Rublev.
Rublev v Norrie Prediction and Tip
Norrie has done well this season to get where he has and will be confident after the nature of the win against Shapovalov. However, Rublev looks in excellent touch setting himself for a strong end to the season. Expect the Russian to carry forward his strong run with a straight sets win.
