Anastasija Sevastova v Polona Hercog Head to Head
Sevastova and Hercog have featured in as many as four head-to-head meetings till date, with the former holding an emphatic 3-1 lead over the latter. They last met in the semifinal of the 2019 clay court championship in Bucharest, with the Latvian winning via a walkover. Sevastova had bagged the first set 6-1 before Hercog pulled out with an injury.

Though the Latvian made a good feast of things in the first set, the Czech pipped her in the tiebreak before moving up a gear to close out a win in straight sets.
Currently placed at 65th in singles rankings, Sevastova will look to give a better account of herself as she opens her campaign at the prestigious Indian Wells Masters against Slovenian Polona Hercog.
What will put her in good stead ahead of Wednesday’s encounter is the fact that she has won more than she has lost in her previous head-to-head outings against the Slovenian.
However, that shouldn’t be a excuse for complacency as Hercog has the game to surprise top rivals on her day.

Hercog Fell to Kvitova in US Open Opener
After a decent last-16 finish at the Cleveland Championships, Hercog, who is ranked outside the top-100 in singles currently, went into the US Open eyeing a longer stay.
However, her came to an early end as she crashed out in the first round itself after losing to two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova.
The Slovenian was never really in the contest as the experienced Czech star raced to a 6-1 win in the opening set and flayed her opponent in the second as well to close out a comprehensive and commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory.
With the wound from the US Open ouster still fresh, Hercog would be determined to clear the opening-round hurdle at Indian Wells. However, between the Slovenian and a place in the second round is Anastasija Sevastova, a familiar foe who she trails 1-3 on head-to-head score.

Ranking and head-to-head record makes Sevastova an overwhelming favorite going into this first-round clash against Hercog. However, the Slovenian has beaten the Latvian before and would have hopes of an encore.
