Alize Cornet v Elena-Gabriela Ruse Head to Head

Cornet Has Been Inconsistent this Season
It’s been an up-and-down year for the former World no. 11, who brings a 21-23 season record to Indian Wells.
The 31-year-old Frenchwoman will be featuring in the tournament for the 10th time in her career. Her best so far has been a Round of 16 appearance in 2014.
A six-time champion from 14 WTA finals, Cornet reached a first final in two years at the Chicago Open in August, defeating the Olympic silver medallist Marketa Vondrousova in the quarterfinal. However, she eventually finished runner-up after falling to Elina Svitolina in straight sets.
Since that run in Chicago, the 31-year-old fell in the first round at the U.S. Open, reached the quarterfinals in Luxembourg and then made a first-round exit from the Chicago Fall Classic.
Over the years, Cornet has been equally good on hard as well as clay surfaces, but has been pretty inconsistent this season, making early exits from most tournaments and reaching her first semifinal of the season in Berlin, on grass before reaching the final in Chicago.
Can she get into a solid rhythm at Indian Wells and make a deep run?

Ruse Comes Through Qualifiers
While inconsistency has been an issue for her opponent, Elena-Gabriela Ruse has turned heads with impressive performances on consistent basis this year.
Ruse, who wasn’t even in the top 150 at the start of the season, captured a WTA title, reached another final and broke into the top 100 in what has been a breakthrough season.
On Tuesday, she ticked off another item on her bucket list, making it to the main draw of the Indian Wells Open after beating the Netherlands’ Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of qualification. The Romanian, seeded third in the qualifiers, had beaten the United States’ Ellie Douglas 7-5, 6-2 in the first qualifying round on Monday.
The 23-year-old was 29-14 from all levels before the start of the tournament.
She had a brilliant clay season, winning her maiden WTA title in Hamburg by beating Andrea Petkovic in the final and then reaching the title clash in Pallermo before finishing runner-up to Danielle Collins. Ruse also qualified for the U.S. Open for the first time in her career this year and reached the third round in Chicago last week, defeating Camila Giorgi and Kateryna Kozlova in the first two rounds before falling to Elina Svitolina in the Round of 16.
Although, she has produced better results on clay than on hard courts over her career, she has looked good on hard surfaces recently and will give Cornet a tough fight in the first round.
Cornet v Ruse Prediction and Tip
Expect this to be cracking contest which will need a third set to separate the two players. Eventually Cornet, a better hard court player, should edge through and set-up a second round clash with No. 23 seed Leylah Fernandez, who has a first round bye.
Tip: Cornet to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
