Philipp Kohlschreiber v Taro Daniel Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2019, Kohlschreiber winning in straight sets for the loss of just four games.

Veteran’s Good Record in Indian Wells

Now 37, Kohlschreiber has been a regular participant at Indian Wells, and has a good record in California. Since first qualifying for the main draw, he has always reached the second round, at least, and often done better.

He was a quarter-finalist in 2018, and has reached the fourth round here on three occasions, including the last time the tournament was held.

As he is now at the veteran stage, he has cut down on his playing commitments and does not often venture outside Europe these days, although he was picked for Germany at the Olympics, losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the first round.

He did enter the US Open, beating Marin Cilic in five sets before bowing out at the second round stage.

Most recently he was in action at the Moselle Open where he came through qualifying and won his first round match, only to fall to Gael Monfils.

Daniel’s Best Results in 2021 on Clay

By contrast, Daniel has a much more modest record, not just in this event, but in major tournaments generally – the second round is aa far as he has gone in any of the Grand Slams.

He was ranked as high as 64 in the world three years ago, off the back of winning his solitary senior ATP title at the Istanbul Open, but since then it has been a slow and steady decline.

His best results in 2021 have tended to come on clay – he reached the semi-final in Belgrade before losing to Matteo Berrettini, having first come through qualifying.

However, since then, he has not won a match on the senior tour, and his record on the Challenger circuit, where he spends most of his time is not much better, although he did get to the third round of a tournament in Portugal two weeks ago.

Kohlschreiber v Daniel Prediction and Tip

The German veteran will start the clear favourite to maintain his good record in Indian Wells against a player who has not won a match on the main tour for more than five months.
