Kevin Anderson v Jordan Thompson Head to Head
Anderson has a 2-0 lead in the series, winning both previous meetings on hard courts.

Anderson Suffers Another Early Exit In San Diego
Kevin Anderson’s title win in Newport lifted his ranking significantly. The big-serving South African has re-entered the Top 70, and will look to end his season on a high.
At 35 Anderson is looking to extract more miles from his waning legs, but age continues to be a barrier even to the best athletes. He is certainly past his injury nightmares, but his hard-court record does not make for pretty good reading.
His US summer season was largely disappointing since capturing the aforementioned seventh career title. He won a single match from a possible six main draw matches. Defeat to Nick Kyrgios in Atlanta, and most recently to Dan Evans in San Diego will sting a little. Anderson was sizable favorite to win both matches.
The former World No. 5 returns to Indian Wells with very fond memories. Anderson is a three-time quarterfinalist at the event but missed the 2019 edition due to injury.

Thompson Failed To Scale San Diego Qualifiers
Jordan Thompson failed to scale the qualifying rounds of the San Diego Open last week. He lost to little-known August Holmgren of Denmark. The World No. 811 made a mockery of the gulf in rankings between them, as he eased past Thompson in straight sets.
Thompson will hope that defeat was just a minor blip as he embarks to restore some of his shattered confidence. The Aussie had put together a fine summer on the grass courts. He made the quarterfinals in Mallorca – a result that served as a springboard for his breakthrough run at Wimbledon.
The 27-year-old notched two impressive, and against-the-odds victories over Casper Ruud and Kei Nishikori en route to the third round. Although he fell to Ilya Ivashka, he would go on to end his grass-court season on a positive note by reaching the semifinals in Newport.
Thompson’s form went from strength to strength on American soil, first up in Los Cabos and and then Atlanta – making a pair of quarterfinals. But lately, he has failed to mimic those perfomances on a consistent basis.
Anderson v Thompson Prediction and Tip
There are bad days in the office as evident in Anderson’s recent results on hard courts, that you can quickly turn the page and start over. Then there are defeats that can tear a player’s confidence apart like Thompson’s shocker in San Diego qualifying. We expect very little resistance from the Australian in this one.
