Leylah Fernandez v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
Rogers holds a 1-0 lead over Fernandez, last defeating her in the 2020 WTA Lexington in straight sets.

Fernandez Continues her Winning Run
19-year-old Leylah Fernandez has done well to carry forward her sublime form from the US Open to Indian Wells.
Starting with a bye in round two, she first beat Alize Cornet in straight sets to set up a third-round clash with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. That match against the French Open runner-up lasted for three sets and saw the young Canadian prevail with 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Fernandez is establishing herself as the player to beat in the BNP Paribas Open although, she may face a stern test against Rogers. After all, the World No. 28 still lacks experience and sooner or later, that may prove to be a deciding factor.
In addition to her US Open final run, Fernandez also won the Monterrey Open to lift her first WTA singles trophy. However, in the rest of the tournaments this season, she never made it past the second round.

Rogers, Playing Some Brilliant Tennis
Shelby Rogers is not only yet to drop a set in the Indian Wells Open, but she is also on a roll and well on the way to deliver her best singles performance of the season.
Up until now, she had never reached the third round in the competition – this time, she is primed for a quarterfinal appearance and possibly, go further.
The American arrived in the tournament on the back of a consecutive round of 16 appearances in the US Open and WTA 500 Chicago. In the opening round, she defeated Anhelina Kalinina with 7-6(2), 6-2.
In the next couple of rounds, she delivered clinical victories over Kristina Kucova and Irina-Camelia Begu, dropping just six games in the process.
Currently ranked World No. 44 – her best ranking yet – Rogers hasn’t won a WTA singles title in her career so far. The closest she came to was in the 2016 Rio Open, where she fell to Francesca Schiavone in three sets in the final.
Fernandez v Rogers Prediction and Tip
Rogers has been quite impressive on hard courts this season, seeing that she is 19-11 on the surface and has reached the fourth-round in the Melbourne and New York majors. She has been more or less consistent on the tour while Fernandez has had bursts of energy and brilliance.
However, the youngster has proven her abilities and has got a fair bit of momentum on her side. This match can very well go either way.
