Jelena Ostapenko v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
In the H2H tally between the two players, it is 2-0 to Ostapenko. They last met in Charleston in 2019 where Ostapenko won in three sets.

Ostapenko Stuns World No. 4 Swiatek
24-year-old Jelena Ostapenko has carved the biggest upset of the competition (and her season) by knocking out the World No. 4, the second seed Iga Swiatek with 6-4, 6-3. The Latvian needed a little under 90 minutes to deliver her first top-10 win of the season and keep her prospects alive in the competition. She won four break points while saving six in the process.
Her other wins in the tournament have come over the likes of Su-Wei Hsieh and Yulia Puntintseva.
The former World No. 5 has had a decent spell in 2021, having won her first singles title since October 2019. She made it to the final in Eastbourne International and defeated Anett Kontaveit to win the trophy. A couple of months later, Ostapenko delivered a similar run in the Luxembourg Open but this time, she fell to Clara Tauson in the final.
Currently ranked #29 in the singles circuit, her last stint was in the WTA 500 Ostrava where she fell to Maria Sakkari in round two.

Rogers Overcomes Fernandez
On one hand, Ostapenko staked her claim in the tournament by knocking out Swiatek. On the other, Shelby Rogers did the same by dispatching the US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez in an epic three-setter with 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(4).
It was Rogers’ most demanding match in the competition thus far, requiring well over two and a half hours to seal the win. Her other exploits in the BNP Paribas Open have concluded in straight-set wins over Anhelina Kalinina, Kristina Kucova, and Irina-Camelia Begu.
The 29-year-old arrived in Indian Wells on the back of a consecutive round of 16 appearances in the US Open and Chicago Open. Rogers’ form on clay and grass wasn’t this impressive as she has mainly excelled on hard courts. She is 24-11 on the surface, including her current results.
The World No. 44 is still in pursuit of her maiden singles title and the closest she came to one was in 2016.
Ostapenko v Rogers Prediction and Tip
Ostapenko will start as the odds-on favourite but Rogers has the home advantage and finds herself in the form of her life. Expect an entertaining game of tennis, one where Rogers may just emerge as the winner in three sets.
