Aslan Karatsev v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

Karatsev and Gerasimov are locked at 2-2 in the head-to-head across all levels. But it is pertinent to note that the Russian has won the past two meetings – both in 2021.

Karatsev Can Qualify For ATP Finals

With as many as six players jostling for places at the season-ending ATP  Finals in Turin, Aslan Karatsev is one of them. The Russian has produced a standout season in 2021 and is certainly on course to collect the ATP’s breakout star title.

Karatsev took the ATP tour by storm at the start of the year when he reached the semifinals of the Australian Open as a qualifier. Among a number of milestones, he has since checked off include winning his maiden ATP title in Dubai and making a jaw-dropping jump in the rankings.

Sitting at a career-high ranking of No. 22, Karatsev has looked a little predictable in recent weeks, and it was fairly obvious his game would go under the microscope after that barnstorming start in Australia.

Karatsevwent 6-5 during the North American hard-court swing, losing his most recent outing in the Round of 16 at the Indian Wells Masters to Hubert Hurkacz

With just one win from four previous participations at the Kremlin Cup, he will attempt to address his poor record at his home tournament when he takes on Egor Gerasimov.

Gerasimov Scales Past Kecmanovic

Egor Gerasimov won a topsy-turvy opening round against Miomir Kecmanovic in three sets to improve to 11-5 on indoor hard courts in 2021. That includes two wins in the qualifying rounds to reach the main draw in the first place.

Gerasimov has lost his status as a Top-100 player after a dreadful second half of the season. But on Tuesday, he played much better than what his current ranking suggests. The serve was once again the hallmark of his game and enabled him to get over a hump.

The Belarusian World No. 109 hammered 10 aces to four double faults. He also saved two crucial break points in the ninth game of the third set to prevent Kecmanovic from serving for the match.

Gerasimov will now look to win back-to-back main draw matches for the first time since Montpellier towards the end of February. Incidentally, he made the semifinals in that indoor hard court event. Could the stars align for him at the Kremlin Cup this week?

Karatsev v Gerasimov Prediction and Tip

Granted Karatsev has looked a little bit shoddy in the second half of the season, there is very little to suggest from Gerasimov (form-wise) he could spring an upset. Plus, the extra incentive of playing on home soil should see the Russian through.

Tip: Karatsev to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
