Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Jonathan Brooksby Head to Head

Fokina and Brooksby have never been involved in a head-to-head meeting before. However, with both players hitting a purple patch at the European Open with impressive wins in their previous rounds, expect a thrilling encounter as they go head to head for the first time ever on Friday.

Fokina Has Reached His First QF In Several Weeks

Purely on the evidence of his runs at events in recent weeks, it won’t be wrong to say that Fokina has hit a slump. If one were to go as far back as the Canadian Open, the Spaniard crashed in the opening round in Toronto after losing to big-serving American John Isner.

After suffering a similar fate at the hands of Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz at the Cincinnati Masters, the 44th-ranked Spaniard was sent packing in the first round of US Open by unheralded Argentine Marco Trungelliti. Though the match was closely fought and went to five sets, the Argentine pipped the Spaniard in the end.

After recording modest runs at the Moselle Open and in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, Fokina opened his campaign at the Indian Wells Masters with a hard-fought win over American Steve Johnson.

However, the win wasn’t enough to help him arrest his spiral of defeats as he went down in straight sets in his second-round clash with emerging South African star Lloyd Harris.

Eyeing a determined shot at glory, Fokina, who has no career titles against his name as yet, launched his Antwerp campaign with a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 win over Australian Jordan Thompson.

Taking the momentum from his victory, the 22-year-old Spaniard fought past Chilean Cristian Garin in three sets to reach a quarter-final for the first time in several weeks.

However, between the Spaniard and a place in the last four stands hugely promising American Jonathan Brooksby. Though they have never played each other before, the American, as he has shown in the recent past, is a fierce competitor who could be more than a handful for top rivals on his day.

Hence, the Spaniard needs to be at the top of his game if he is to get the result in his favor on Friday.

Brooksby  High On Confidence Ahead of Fokina Clash

After getting himself into the second week of the US Open, his maiden Grand Slam, riding on a streak of wins that included sensational upsets of fellow countryman Taylor Fritz and Russian Aslan Karatsev, Brooksby was tipped to have a similar run at the Indian Wells Masters.

Living up to his promise, the 70th-ranked American opened with a straight-set win over Cem Ilkel of Turkey. However, he crashed out in the second round after losing in three sets to this year’s Cincinnati champion Alexander Zverev.

However, it doesn’t seem to have taken Brooksby long to return to his best as two straight wins got him into the main draw of the European Open.

The 20-year-old opened his Antwerp campaign with a takedown of giant American Reilly Opelka and followed up with another win in straight sets over rising Dutchman Botic Van De Zandschulp to set up a quarter-final showdown with Fokina.

Upbeat after his wins in the previous rounds, the young American will come out swinging against Fokina and will fancy adding to his growing list of scalps on Friday.

Fokina v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

While Fokina’s higher ranking will give him a slight edge going into this quarter-final clash, Brooksby is in red-hot form after a sequence of wins in the tournament and could well hold a surprise up his sleeve come Friday.
