Camila Giorgi v Arantxa Rus Head to Head
Between Giorgi and Rus, it is surprisingly the Dutchwoman who leads in the head to head tally with 2-0.
That said, both those wins came back more than a decade ago in 2009, effectively making this a new, renewed rivalry.

Giorgi Storms Past Kovinic
After incurring a litany of first-round exits in her last four WTA events on the tour, Camila Giorgi is finally playing the kind of tennis that took her to the Canadian Open title in Montreal a few weeks ago.
The 29-year-old Italian, playing as the #4 seed in Tenerife, has so far moved past the likes of Aliona Bolsova and Danka Kovinic. The opening match against the Spanish qualifier lasted for three sets but in the second round, Giorgi picked up the pace as she defeated Kovinic convincingly with 6-1, 6-2.
She won an impressive 83% of her first service points and picked up five break points in the process to see herself through to the quarterfinal.
Looking at her overall season, it is fair to say that Giorgi has revived her career to some extent in 2021, courtesy of that winning feat in Montreal and a semifinal appearance in the Viking International Eastbourne.
In these two tournaments, she defeated some big names like Karolina Pliskova, Aryna Sabalenka, Elise Mertens, and Petra Kvitova to upset the field and move back into the top 50. What the current World No. 36 lacks, however, is consistency.

Rus Looking to Tap into Clay Success
Arantxa Rus entered the Tenerife Ladies Open as an underdog. Two games in, she has got a real chance of making it to the semis although, she will need to work hard.
The 30-year-old from Holland is clearly well-experienced and has got some momentum with her. However, almost all of it has come on the back of clay-court wins.
Rus has reached four ITF finals in 2021 on the surface, going the distance in three of them. She also made it to a couple of WTA Challenger finals in June and July where she had to settle for the runner-up trophy. But the fact remains that on hard courts, she is just 5-8.
So it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that her current run in Tenerife has been her best one yet on the surface. Yet to drop a set, Rus has so far dispatched Viktorija Golubic and Greet Minnen.
Giorgi v Rus Prediction and Tip
Giorgi’s inconsistency doesn’t make her a sure bet but she did take the field by surprise in Montreal. It looks like she is on track to do so again. Of course, her case is made strong with the fact that she is up against Rus, whose hard-court spell this year hasn’t been particularly great.
Expect Giorgi to win this one.
