Camila Osorio v Saisai Zheng Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Camila Osorio on a Roll

19-year-old Camila Osorio has been absolutely brilliant so far in the Tenerife Ladies Open. Against all odds, she has made it to the quarterfinals and now has a real chance of going the distance.

In the opener, she stunned the top-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to deliver the first top-10 win of her career. That match lasted for a little over two hours and saw Serrano win 91 points to Svitolina’s 82. Post that, she knocked out Mayar Sherif 6-4, 6-2 in a match that was much more up her alley.

Having defeated two players far more experienced than her, Osorio Serrano has proven that she is capable of punching above her weight. The question now remains if the current World No. 63 can keep up this momentum.

In all fairness, it has been a wonderful season for her, having won a singles title in Copa Colsanitas and boasting a win-loss tally of 31-16. That said, she is yet to develop consistent play – evident from the fact that her current run in Tenerife marks the first time since Wimbledon that she has reached the third round on the tour.

Between then and now, Osorio has lost in the early rounds.

Zheng Finds her Singles Groove

Saisai Zheng arrived in Spain on the back of a two-match losing streak on the WTA singles circuit. She lost her opening round matches in ITF Berkeley and Indian Wells.

So it was only natural to assume that the 27-year-old Chinese will face a tough test of making it deep in Tenerife. She has, however, silenced her critics in style.

Starting with a straight-set win over Rebeka Masarova, she moved on to beat the No. 7 seed Clara Tauson in three gruelling sets with 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-4. Zheng, despite being years ahead in experience to the 19-year-old Tauson, faced a tough match but ultimately prevailed in two hours and 49 minutes.

Her first service game wasn’t that impressive (and neither were most of her stats), but was guided to victory by Tauson’s unforced errors throughout the match.

But a win is a win and Zheng is in a good position to capitalise on this success. The World No. 86 most recently won an ITF $60,000 event in Portugal to build some momentum. Overall, however, her season has been rather bleak with a win-loss tally of 14-16.

Osorio v Zheng Prediction and Tip

This is a match that can quite likely go either way. Osorio, owing to her superior form and rhythm, will start as the favourite.
