Harris Earns Valuable Ranking Points in Antwerp

Harris has already picked up a good haul of ranking points in his quest to finish the year as a top 30  player, but he would like to make doubly sure by reaching the final and even winning the tournament, which would be a first for him on the senior tour.

Like Sinner, his passage to this stage of the competition has been largely without difficulty, even if the Belgian wildcard Zizou Bergs did take him to a tie-break in the first set of their opening match.

The hard hitting Jan-Lennard Struff was dismissed for the loss of just five games, , and hs quarter-final opponent Marton Fucsovics, did not pose as stiff a challenge as might have been expected in their quarter-final match.

Harris secured an early break in the first set and having saved a break back point, forced another break to underline his advantage.

When he broke midway through the second set as well, he appeared to be cantering to the winning line.

Fucsovics briefly offered some resistance by breaking back, but, barely had the Hungarian tie to celebrate that, when he was immediately broken again.

He was not given another chance as Harris served out next game.

Sinner Closes in On Another Final

Sinner is closing in on yet another final in 2021. He has already won in Melbourne (the Great Ocean Road Open), Washington, and Sofia, and finished runner-up in Miami.

And a win in Antwerp will boost his hopes of still making the ATP finals in Turin next month.

His progress to this stage in Belgium has been largely untroubled, beginning with a  straight sets win over compatriot Lorenzo Musetti.

That earned him a quarter-final with Arthur Rinderknech of France, the world number 65, on Friday.

The first set began scrappily with three games going against serve, at the end of which sequence Sinner was a break up which he consolidated to take the set.

Rinderknech then dropped his serve at the start of the second set, and one more break enabled Sinner to end proceedings without further ado.
