Cristian Garin v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
This will be their first tour-level meetings. There only meeting at a qualifying level, five years ago, ended with Sonego winning in three.

Can Garin Start With a Win?
Clay court specialist Cristian Garin clearly doesn’t like playing outside his favourite surface and a 3-8 hard court record for the season is a reflection of that.
His three wins on the surface all came recently, against Norbert Gombos at the U.S. Open; Alex Molcan at Davis Cup and Ernesto Escobedo in Indian Wells.
This week, he featured in Antwerp, but lost in the first round to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina despite winning the first set.
The Chilean was 15-9 on clay, winning the title in Santiago and finishing quarterfinalist on four other occasions.
Last year in Vienna, he won his first round match but lost in the second. Can he win the first round match this year as well?

Sonego Was the Runner-up Last Year
World No. 24 Lorenzo Sonego is bringing a 27-21 record to Vienna.
The 26-year-old has a better record on hard courts than his first round opponent and was in the quarterfinals in San Diego recently.
The Italian has reached two finals this year, winning the title on clay in Cagliari and finishing runner-up on grass in Eastbourne.
He also reached the semifinals in Rome, defeating Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev en route, but couldn’t reach the final after falling to Novak Djokovic.
This will be Sonego’s third appearance in the tournament. He lost in the first round on debut, but had a terrific run in 2020, reaching the final of the tournament before going down to Andrey Rublev. One of his wins last year came over Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal. Can he repeat his exploits this year?
Garin v Sonego Prediction and Tip
