Ons Jabeur v Vitalia Diatchenko Head to Head

Jabeur and Diatchenko met once and that was in the qualifying rounds of 2014 Wimbledon. The Tunisian won after her opponent retired. Aside from that, this will be their first meeting on tour.

Jabeur Chasing WTA Finals Spot

The race for the WTA Finals is hotting up. With Ashleigh Barty now confirming her absence, Ons Jabeur is in the ascendancy to clinch one of the three places still up for grabs.

Jabeur missed out from adding her points tally last week when she was forced to retire in the first round of the Kremlin Cup due to an elbow injury.

Assuming the Tunisian has fully recovered from any niggling injuries, she will need to perform with distinction in Italy’s Alpine town. Anett Kontaveit’s latest title win in Moscow completely changes the WTA Race picture. Jabeur cannot afford another slip up.

The 27-year-old has been one of the WTA’s top performers this year. With a tour-leading 48 match wins, Jabeur became the first Arab player on either tour to break the world’s top 10. She has 8 of her past 10 completed matches coming to Courmayeur.

Injuries Continue to Haunt Diatchenko

31-year-old Vitalia Diatchenko has had another year to forget. Since recording her career-best year on the ITF tour in 2019 (winning six titles), her form has gone into a sharp nosedive.

Diatchenko could be excused for failing to match her exploits in 2020 when tennis and other major sports came to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic. But she hasn’t had any sort of respite this season. Her most productive week on the WTA tour came in Chicago when she made the quarterfinals as a qualifier.

Diatchenko’s struggles could be attributed to her questionable fitness record. She has had three retirements in 2021, with two of them coming in the past month in successive WTA tournaments.

The Russian missed on a wild card entrant at her home tournament in Moscow last week. And she failed to scale the qualifying rounds after losing in straight sets to Anna Kalinskaya.

Jabeur v Diatchenko Prediction and Tip

Jabeur cannot afford any lapses in concentration this week. She has a generous opener at least on paper. Expect the Tunisian trailblazer to ease her way into the second round.

Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
