Federico Delbonis v Pablo Andujar-Alba Head to Head

The pair have played each other five before, and Andujar-Alba leads their head to head series by three matches to two. All those previous matches have been on clay, the Spaniard winning the first three in Monte Carlo inn 2012, in Buenos Aires in 2014 and again in Marrakech five years later.

Delbonis, though, has won the two most recent matches between the two, in Sardinia last year and at the French Open this year, although that went to five sets.

Delbonis on a Long Losing Streak

Although 2021 looks like it will conclude without the Argentine adding to hs two senior singles career title, that does not mean 2021 has not been without highlights for Delbonis.

He was runner-up in the doubles at the Chile Open in March with partner Jaume Munar of Spain, and then in Rome, at the Italian Masters, he reached his first Masters quarter-final.

That helped him break back into the top 50 again, and he consolidated that by reaching the fourth round of the French Open, his best ever showing at a Grand Slam.

A semi-final in Hamburg was to follow, but results declined once he moved away from his favourite surface of clay.

Since losing in the second round at Gstaad, he has lost in the first round of very tournament he has entered, a run spanning seven events and three months.

Andujar-Alba Happier on Clay

Like Delbonis, Andujar-Alba is much happier on clay. All 9 of his senior ATP finals have been on that surface, although it has been more than three years since his last victory in Morocco.

It is , therefore, a little surprising that the Grand Slam event where he has the best record is the UP Open.. He reached the fourth round there in 2019, and this time round, got to the third round stage at Flushing Meadows, losing to the eventual winner Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

However, it was back to clay at the first available opportunity, playing in Challenger events in Spain and Poland, before returning to indoor hard courts in Sofia, where he lost in the first round.

A similar fate awaited him in Indian Wells last time out, where the Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic beat him.

Federico Delbonis v Pablo Andujar-Alba Prediction and Tip

Although all their previous matches have been on clay, Delbonis, based on the recent history between the two, and courtesy of his higher ranking, will start the favourite for this match, although his recent form has been terrible, and needs to improve.

Tip: Delbonis to win: 6/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
