Dayana Yastremska v Kateryna Kozlova Head to Head

Former World No. 21 Dayana Yastremska was well on track to conquer new heights on the tour and establish herself as a formidable opponent. However, a provisional suspension for doping in 2021 sidetracked her progress and hindered her progress.
It wasn’t until July this season that the 21-year-old was cleared to play again but that meant in some ways, she had to start from scratch.
In her first tournament of the year, Yastremska reached the semifinal but followed it with first-round exits in the Tokyo Olympics, WTA San Jose, Canadian Open, US Open, and WTA Portoroz. She also reached the second round in a handful of events in the Indian Wells Open and Chicago Fall Tennis Classic – but a serious lack of momentum and form kept her out of the spotlight.
She arrived in Courmayeur with a win-loss tally of 5-10 and a singles ranking of #79. Nonetheless, as a four-time WTA finalist, she has the pedigree and skill set needed to deliver a deep run in Italy. Yastremska kickstarted her campaign with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Vitalia Diatchenko.

Kozlova, Sailing in a Similar Boat
In many ways, Kateryna Kozlova is mirroring the season that Yastremska has had so far. The 27-year-old also started her year a bit late in April and is currently playing in Courmayeur under the protected ranking.
As a player, Kozlova’s pedigree doesn’t seem that impressive when compared to Yastremska’s – she is currently ranked world number 132 and has peaked at the No. 62 spot in February 2018, courtesy of the sole singles final of her career in Taipei Open.
Her season highlights include a third-round stint in Nottingham, followed by a quarterfinal appearance in Budapest and a semifinal appearance in the Poland Open. Most recently, Kozlova participated in the ITF $60,000 event in the US where she was a quarterfinalist.
