World No. 41 Frances Tiafoe arrived in Stockholm on the back of a first-round exit in the Paris Masters to Marcos Giron. The 23-year-old American was beaten in three demanding sites and will look to avoid a similar fate here.
Looking at his recent form, Tiafoe recently was the runner-up in the Vienna Open where, as a qualifier, he moved past the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Diego Schwartzman, and Jannik Sinner – but ultimately, he fell to Alexander Zverev in the final.
His other positive results entail a fourth-round stint in the US Open and a third-round appearance in the Indian Wells Open and Canadian Masters.
Tiafoe’s form has been considerably better in the second half of the year, evident from the fact that he has jumped a good 10 spots in the ranking since August. Here in Stockholm Open, he is starting as the number eight seed.

Ymer, Hoping to Tap into Home Advantage
25-year-old Elias Ymer is starting in the tournament with a wildcard and will look to perform well amidst his home crowd. Along with Leo Borg (song of Bjorn Borg), he is the only other Swede in the field.
But going by his recent form, it is going to be a tall order to deliver. He is the current World No. 167 with his peak coming at #105 in 2018. Ymer has spent the majority of the season on the Challenger circuit with not a whole lot to show for.
In ATP events, he is 3-6 and his best result came in ATP Washington where he reached the second round as a qualifier. Recently, he featured in the Kremlin Cup but lost in the qualifiers. Last week, Ymer also participated in the Tenerife Challenger but fell in round two.
Tiafoe v Ymer Prediction and Tip
Tiafoe is more experienced and has a comparatively superior pedigree than Ymer, which means he will start as the odds on favourite. But he is inconsistent and shaky while Ymer has the home advantage. Perhaps, he can muster the will to topple the player ranked some 100 odd places above him.
It may not be a straightforward win for the American and we may see three sets here.
