The Astronomical Rise of Krejcikova

She was barely known for her singles game at the start of the season, but she heads to the prestigious season-ending tournament as the second seed and ranked No. 3 in the world, all thanks to a stellar trophy-laden year, which saw her clinch her maiden singles Grand Slam title at the French Open and add two more titles in Strasbourg and Prague.

Krejcikova also made it to a first WTA 1000 final this year, but couldn’t win the title in Dubai falling to Garbine Muguruza in the summit clash. Muguruza is in the same group as Krejcikova at the WTA Finals and the two will be meeting for the fourth time this year. The Czech has been the dominant one in their rival as she beat Muguruza in the last two matches in Cincinnati and the U.S. Open.

This is the first time that the 25-year-old will be taking the court since losing in the Round of 16 of the Indian Wells Open. She is 45-16 for the season and is 14-3 in her last four tournaments. In addition to her four singles finals she also reached five doubles finals this year, along with Katerina Siniakova, winning four of them, which included the French Open title and the Olympics gold.

Having touched great heights this season, she will be eager to finish on a high. Can she go all the way to the title?

Kontaveit Brings 10-0 Record to the Tournament

Annett Kontaveit comes into the tournament on the back of 10 consecutive victories, which includes back-to-back titles at the Kremlin Cup and the Transylvania Open.

With the two titles won in successive weeks at the end of October, Kontaveit now has four titles this season and five in her career. Her earlier triumphs this year came at the Cleveland Open and the Ostrava Open and she was also a finalist at the Grampians Trophy at the start of the year, when she shared the title with Ann Li after the final was cancelled.

Overall Kontaveit is 45-15 for the season and 19-2 since the U.S Open.

Currently on a career-high ranking of No. 8, the 25-year-old will be hoping to carry her red-hot form to the WTA Finals and would look to keep the streak going in the first match against Krejcikova.

Krejcikova v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip

Although Krejcikova’s been in great form through the season, she may find the going tough against the in-form Kontaveit. Expect a cracking opener with Kontaveit edging past the World no. 3.
