Collins Breezes Past Minnen

World No. 29 and third seed Danielle Collins breezed past Belgium’s Greet Minnen in the Round of 16 of the Linz Open on Tuesday.

The American, who dropped serve once in both the sets, converted six of 10 break points (thrice in each set) to win the 65-minute contest 6-1, 6-2.

The 27-year-old, who had never featured at a WTA senior final prior to this year, made it to two of them this season, winning the WTA 250 in Pallermo on clay and the WTA 500 in Silicon Valley on hard. On Wednesday, she will be featuring in the ninth quarterfinal of the season.

Collins hasn’t won a quarterfinal since winning the Silicon Valley Classic, reaching that stage only once in the last five tournaments, at the Chicago Fall Classic. With Tuesday’s win she improved to 39-14 for the season and will be hoping to notch a couple of more wins to end the season in fitting style.

Van Uytvanck Cruises Past Tsurenko

Alison Van Uytvanck pulled off another comfortable victory on Tuesday as the Belgian dumped out Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko 6-0, 6-3 in the second round.

The 27-year-old was even more dominant in the first round, when she needed just 52 minutes to dispatch Austria’s Sinja Kraus 6-1, 6-0.

One blemish? She dropped serve once in both the rounds. Against Tsurenko on Tuesday, she dropped just three points on her serve in the first set as she got the second bagel of the tournament. But the Ukrainian did put a bit of pressure on her serve in the second set, however, Van Uytvanck was equal to her task, saving five of six break points and converting three of five to win the contest in an hour and six minutes.

Ranked No. 69 in the world, Van Uytvanck won her fifth career title and her first of the season at the Astana Open in September. She is playing in Linz for the fifth time with her best coming in 2018 when she reached the semifinals.

Featuring in what will be her third tour-level quarterfinal of the season, the Belgian will be hoping to keep the momentum going.

Collins v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

Collins is the third seed and the higher-ranked player. She will be the favourite to advance to the semifinals but Van Uytvanck will be a tough opponent to beat. Expect a three-setter with Collins marching on.
