Danielle Collins v Alison Riske Head to Head

Collins leads Riske 1-0, last defeating the 31-year-old in the 2018 Madrid Masters qualifying round.

Collins in a Scintillating Form

Danielle Collins, starting as the number three seed in Linz with a bye into the second round, is yet to drop a set so far. So far, she has successfully navigated the challenges against Greet Minnen (6-1, 6-2) and the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck (7-5, 6-3).

The 27-year-old looks primed to reach her third singles final of the 2021 WTA season, the other two coming consecutively in the Palermo Open and San Jose Open – where she won both the titles.

Since then, Collins has reached the third round in the US Open, Canadian Open, and the quarterfinals in Chicago Open. Before coming to Linz, Collins was also instrumental in guiding team USA in the Billie Jean King Cup. She recorded some impressive victories over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, Sara Torribes Tormo, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Overall, the American has had a fairly impressive season with the current tally of 40-14 and the current ranking of World No. 29.

Riske Moves Past Wang

World No. 73 Alison Riske is set to compete in her first semifinal on the tour since the one in Portoroz Open (where she moved on to reach the final but fell to Jasmine Paolini).

Here in Linz, the veteran American has dispatched Mona Barthel, Alize Cornet, and Xinyu Wang – all in straight sets. Riske was notably clinical against the Chinese, beating her 6-3, 7-5, with a first service win rate of 73 percent.

However, even with this performance, Riske’s year-to-date win-loss tally stands at 14-16 – which in itself speaks about the kind of uneventful spell she has had in 2021. She started the year inside the top 30 but has since fallen out on the back of a lacklustre showing. With most of her tournaments ending in early-round exits, Riske will hope to go the distance here in Linz.

Collins v Riske Prediction and Tip

We are in for an entertaining game of tennis that can very well go either way. Collins will start as the favourite and by virtue of her form, she has a much better chance of reaching the semis. Riske, however, has the experience and a fairly superior pedigree that can assist her in carving the upset.
