Zverev Looking For 2018 Repeat

The season got off to a good start for 2018 ATP Tour Finals winner Alexander Zverev, winning titles at Acupulco and Madrid, as well as making the quarters at the Aussie Open and semis at the French.

While his Wimbledon run may have been less than optimal, things took a positive turn for him thereafter.

Zverev won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, defeating Novak Djokovic en route and looked in ominous form winning the  Cincinnati Masters defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev in the latter stages. A strong US Open run followed, where he was ousted by world number one Novak Djokovic in a five-setter.

After a successful Laver Cup, Zverev  returned to the circuit at Indian Wells and looked good for the title before losing out to Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals after having been in a position of strength having had match points on his own serve.

The German continued his strong run clinching another title at the ATP 500 in Vienna and was a semi-finalist at the Paris Masters last week, falling to Daniil Medvedev.

Zverev will look to end a strong year with a deep run this coming week at Turin, with an eye on a repeat of his 2018 Tour Finals win.

Berrettini With Home Favorite Tag

Home favorite Matteo Berrettini has had a good year overall, breaking into the top eight in the rankings, looking sharp Down Under, making the quarter-finals at the French Open, the finals of the Madrid Masters 1000 and being runner-up at Wimbledon heading into the hard court season.

With a few niggles delaying his start at the US Open series,  Berrettini only played in Cincinnati where he looked a little rusty but played himself into fitness and form gradually.

It was a quarter -final loss to Auger- Aliassime in Cincinnati that ended his build-up to the US Open, but he looked in good touch in New York again making the final eight before falling short against the world number one Novak Djokovic after winning  a grueling opening set.

Berrettini has had a mixed run since losing to Taylor Fritz in the second round of  Indian Wells and losing a thrilling quarter-final to Next Gen Tour Finals champion Carlos Alcaraz in Vienna. A neck strain kept him out of the Paris Masters last week, but the Italian will be looking to end his season with a good run indoors in front of his home fans.

Zverev v Berrettini Prediction and Tip

This has the making of a blockbuster opener with both players’ explosive games, especially on the indoor surface. Zverev will be his resolute self while Berrettini will be cheered on by the home crowd. Expect a tight three-setter with the consistent Zverev inching through.
