Zverev Win Will Assure Semis
It has been a strong overall season for the 2018 ATP Tour Finals winner, Alexander Zverev, with titles at the Madrid & Cincinnati Masters 1000s, Mexican and Vienna Open ATP 500s and the Olympic gold medal.
Coming into Turin, Zverev hoped to sign off the season on a strong note and aimed at repeating the wonders of 2018 all over again from London.
In the tougher section of the draw, he opened up against home favorite Italian Matteo Berrettini and after clinching a tight tie-breaker 9-7, received a win through the Italian retiring with an injury early in the second set.
It was a tight second group match for Zverev against Daniil Medvedev, who is now becoming one of his arch rivals.
After losing the first set 3-6, and saving a number of break points in the second, Zverev was able to get his momentum going, with a solid second set tiebreak that he clinched 7-3.
A strong serving third set saw another tiebreak, and although Zverev had the early mini-break, there was no going away for Medvedev. The German saved two match points in the tiebreak to get the score to 6-6, but the Russian finally prevailed 8-6 in the tiebreak and a match of inches with not much to choose between the players.
A win against Hurkacz on Thursday would all but secure Zverev a spot in the final four.

Hurkacz Looking For First Turin Win
It was a year that saw Hubert Hurkacz win his first ever Masters 1000 (Miami) and make the Wimbledon semi-finals defeating Roger Federer en route ( and a 6-0 final set).
Making a first ever appearance having secured the final spot here in Turin, it was an excellent show by the Pole in the opening match where he took the first set against Daniil Medvedev. The Russian however upped the ante and won a close tightly fought opener in three sets.
It was a much less noteworthy of a performance from Hurkacz against Jannik Sinner, the standby filling in due to the injury driven withdrawal of Matteo Berrettini.
Sinner looked in excellent touch and used the crowd well to his advantage to prevail with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Hurkacz.
Having lost the first two matches, the chances of Hurkacz making the final four look dim, but the Pole will be determined to end on a high and hope to bring his best in his last group match against Zverev.
Zverev v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip
Coming into the match Zverev has a lot more to play for than Hurkacz and will be determined to seal his spot in the final four. Hurkacz is all but out of the tournament and will be hoping for a first win as a consolation.
Expect some good strokes and points, but Zverev should prevail in two well contested sets.
