Cerundolo Excelled In 2021

Juan Manuel Cerundolo breathed new life on the ATP tour. He made waves at his home tournament in Cordoba last season, winning his maiden ATP title against the odds as a qualifier. He defeated five players in the main draw- all ranked inside the world’s top 100 – to collect the trophy.

And the young Argentine did not stop there. Further success followed, with Cerundolo bagging three ATP Challenger titles and soaring to a career-high ranking of No.85.

Cerundolo’s rise was swift and impressive and earned him a place at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. But it almost felt he was thrown in deep waters, having never competed at a hardcourt tournament all year. The 20-year-old could not master a single win and was eliminated in the group stage.

Attention turns to 2022, where Cerundolo will look to become an all-court player. His participation in Adelaide will be the first ATP hardcourt tournament of his career. Will he struggle to transition to the surface, or will he find his footing right out of the gate?

Bolt Gets Wild Card Entry

Alex Bolt is one of three Australians to receive a wild card entrant into the main draw of the 2022 Adelaide International. Bolt is a former quarterfinalist in these parts and was bound to receive one following last season’s title triumph on the ATP Challenger Tour.

The 28-year-old has never been ranked higher than 125 in the ATP rankings but is vastly the more experienced player on hard courts as compared to Cerundolo. Bolt boasts over 200 wins on the surface across all levels, but he has garnered a meager 13 main draw wins on the main tour in his career.

He will start his season on home territory for the umpteenth time. The left-handed Aussie has racked up a share of his wins on home soil in recent seasons. His best Grand Slam result came at the Australian Open when he made the third round in 2019.

Bolt won the Nottingham Challenger last year to stay in contention within the Top 150.

Cerundolo v Bolt Prediction and Tip

Despite sitting almost 50 spots below Cerundolo in the rankings, Bolt is the overwhelming favorite according to the bookies to pick up the win. The Australian is the more accomplished player on this surface and it is hard to see an upset in this one.

Tip: Bolt to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
