Denis Shapovalov v Daniel Evans Head to Head

It is 1-1 from their previous two tour-level meetings. However, Evans has beaten Shapovalov at a lower-level tournament as well.

Shapovalov Skips Opener Due to Fatigue

Denis Shapovalov didn’t take the court for his singles match in the first tie against the United States due to fatigue.

The 22-year-old Canadian, who tested positive for COVID-19 upon his arrival in Sydney a few days ago, was in isolation in his hotel room before being released upon completion of all the protocols. He skipped the singles opener but did take the court later for the doubles match, along with his partner, Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Canadian duo went down to the American pairing of Taylor Fritz and John Isner as the United States won the tie 3-0.

The left-handed Shapovalov, who reached two finals in 2021, in Geneva and Stockholm, couldn’t add to his only career title won in Stockholm in 2019. He finished 2021 with a 30-23 record, which included a first semifinal at a major — a final four appearance at Wimbledon which ended with Novak Djokovic winning in straight sets.

Shapovalov has featured in both the previous editions of the ATP Cup, but doesn’t have a winning record in the tournament. He was 2-2 from his four singles matches in 2020 and lost both his matches in 2021.

Evans Demolishes Struff in Opener

Daniel Evans handed Great Britain a 2-1 win over Germany as the World No. 25 won both his singles and doubles contest in a Group C tie on Sunday.

Evans didn’t face a single break point in his singles match against Jan-Lennard Struff, however, he broke the German twice in each set for a 6-1, 6-2 win in an hour and nine minutes.

The 31-year-old Briton then paired with Jammie Murray to win the doubles match against Alexander Zerev and Kevin Krawietz.

Evans, who won his maiden singles title in Melbourne-2 in 2021 and reached a first Masters 1000 semifinal in Monte-Carlo, finished the season with a 25-23 record.

Ranked No. 25 in the world, Evans has a good record at the ATP Cup. In his only previous appearance in 2020, he won three singles matches and lost just one. He will be looking to improve that record with another win on Tuesday.

Shapovalov v Evans Prediction and Tip

It will be a test of Shapovalov’s fitness. He may take time to get into the groove and that should give Evans the advantage. Expect the Briton to register another win in the tournament.
