Dan Evans v John Isner Head to Head

Evans and Isner have been involved in two career, head-to-head meetings so far and are tied at one wins apiece. Their last meeting was in the last 16 in Beijing in 2019 which saw the big-serving American winning in straight sets.

Last season saw the former British No.1 finish way short of where he had hoped to be. However, this year, Evans is off to a big-bang start with two wins on the trot in the ongoing ATP Cup.

Leading the line for team Great Britain alongside current British No.1 Cameron Norrie, Evans opened his campaign with a clinical win over big-hitting German Jan-Lennard Struff. Getting off to a rousing start, the Briton raced to a comfortable lead and held on to his advantage to take the opening set 6-1.

Wary not to let up on his intensity in the second, Evans kept up the heat on the clueless German in the second to cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Up against last year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in his next, the Englishman took the Canadian to the cleaners to race to a 6-4 win in the opening set and dished out a similar treatment in the second to record a fine win.

High on confidence and belief after two wins back-to-back, Evans will lock horns with big-serving American John Isner in his next group-stage fixture on Thursday.

The Briton is currently tied 1-1 in head-to-head meetings with the giant American and current form will tip the scales in his favor going into Thursday’s clash.

Isner Hopes to Bounce Back After Struff Defeat

A veteran on the men’s circuit now, Isner has had a mixed-bag run in the ATP Cup so far. Towering at 6’10”, the American got his campaign off to a rousing start with a straight-set romp over Brayden Schnur of Canada.

Putting his bullet serves to good work, Isner breezed through to a 6-1 win in the opening set and was similarly in his next to down the unheralded Canadian 6-1, 6-3.

However, he slipped up in his next group-stage fixture against Jan-Lennard Struff, going down to the German in three sets. In a fiercely contested tie, Struff took the opening set via a tiebreak. However, the seasoned American came roaring back into the contest afrer taking the second set 6-4.

But the German held his nerves in the decider to prevail in three sets. Up against in-form British star Dan Evans in his next fixture on Thursday, Isner would be expected to play at the level that he did against Schnur. However, even that might not be enough to get the better of Evans on current form.

While the two players are tied 1-1 on the head-to-head count, Evans will start as a firm favorite against Isner on account of his blazing run in the ATP Cup.
