Marin Cilic v Laslo Djere Head to Head
Cilic and Djere have been involved in just a solitary career meeting till date, with the Croat holding a 1-0 lead over the Serbian. Their only on-court meeting came in the last 16 of the Madrid Masters in 2019. Cilic came out tops in the tie in three sets.

Cilic Hopes to Extend Head-to-Head Lead Over Djere
While his best years in tennis are firmly behind him now, Cilic did make a winning start to his new season as he saw off Thiago Monteiro of Brazil in straight sets in his opening clash at the ongoing Adelaide International on Wednesday.
Launching his Adelaide campaign with this last-16 tie, the veteran Croat tennis star got off the blocks swiftly as he caught his opponent with some sumptuously vintage tennis.
Cilic’s persistence paid off as he managed to secure a break on the Brazilian’s serve and held on to his held to eventually take the opening set 6-4. Though the unheralded Monteiro showed good fighting skills and combative spirit to stay in the contest and take the second set to a tiebreak, the outcome was never in doubt as the Croat, bringing all his experience into play, pipped the Brazilian to a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win.
The victory saw the former Grand Slam champion set up a quarter-final meeting with in-form Serbian Laslo Djere.
As was evident from his victory in the opening clash, Cilic has found his bearings early in the season and what would give more confidence and belief going into the last-eight clash is the 1-0 head-to-head advantage that he holds over the Serbian.
However, Djere has clearly put himself in contention for the title with two wins on the trot and the Croat would have to at his clinical best to get the better of the Serbian on Friday.

In-form Djere Eyes Cilic Scalp
After falling some way short of meeting his expectations last season, Djere got off to the best possible start in the new season with a convincing win in his opening clash at the Adelaide International.
Up against Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain in his tournament opener, the 52nd-ranked Serbian took the opening set 7-5 and overcame a spirited challenge from the Spaniard in the second to prevail in straight sets.
Drawn to face diminutive Frenchman Corentin Moutet in his next, Djere fell to a 4-6 loss in the opening set before engineering a remarkable fightback to take the tie into a deciding set.
However, just when it seemed that the match was heading for an exciting climax, the Frenchman pulled out of the tie and the tournament with an injury, thereby ensuring Djere’s passage into the last eight by virtue of a walkover.
However, the Serb will face arguably his toughest opponent in the tournament so far in the form of Marin Cilic in his next. Djere came up short in his only previous head-to-head outing against the Croat and will hope that his form in the ongoing event will help him go level with Cilic on the head-to-head count.
Cilic v Djere Prediction and Tip
While his win in theoir only previous head-to-head clash will put Cilic slightly ahead in the contest against Djere, the Serb has shown good skills in the event so far and has the momentum to go for his first career win over the veteran Croat star.
