Naomi Osaka v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head
There have been two previous matches between these two with both winning one. Petkovic had clinched their first match-up in 2014 while Osaka levelled the scoreline in 2019 when they faced off in Beijing. She won 6-2, 6-0.

After having made a slow start to the season in her opener against Alize Cornet, Osaka romped through to the quarterfinal with a dazzling performance in her second round encounter.
It came against Belgium’s Maryna Zanevska, ranked 82nd in the world as Osaka came through 6-1, 6-1 in a mere 59 minutes.
Aided by her opponent’s six double-faults, Osaka broke Zanevska five times in the entire match while never facing a single break-point. And while Osaka’s first serve percentage could have been a lot better than 50%, she won 18 of those 20 points to carve out the victory.
Osaka will hope she can continue to show something similar by way of form now as she hunts for a third successive win in the lead-up to the season’s first Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Petkovic Scrapes Past Burel
Taking on a player ranked just one spot behind her, Petkovic was taken to the distance by Clara Burel before edging her French opponent in three sets.
Following on from her straight-set shock win against Ludmilla Samsonova in the opening round, Petkovic defeated Burel 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to set up this showing against Osaka.
In a match that lasted two hours and eight minutes, Petkovic scrambled through to an opening set victory despite being two breaks up early. She was then broken four times in a row in the second set, failed to serve out the match in the ninth game of the third before breaking her opponent in the 10th to clinch it.
Petkovic will need to do a lot better with her serve against a player like Osaka after being broken eight times in the encounter.
Osaka v Petkovic Prediction and Tip
The top seed Osaka has shown enough in her previous encounter to suggest this could well be a cakewalk for her. Expecting a straight-set victory.
