Clara Tauson v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

Tauson and Sasnovich have never faced off each other in a competitive encounter before this.

Tauson Wastes No Time to Make Quarterfinals

Perched at her career-best ranking of 44th in the world following an unforgettable previous season, Tauson has begun 2022 like nothing’s changed.

The Dane, who won three WTA titles in 2021, carved out a 7-5, 6-3 win over Anhelina Kalinina in her opener before slamming Lin Zhu in the second round. Tauson dropped just one game in her win.

In fact, she went on a 11-game winning streak after the score was tied at 1-1 in the first set, breaking her opponent six times in a row to march into the last eight. Tauson lost just eight points on her own serve in the entire encounter.

Things could get tighter now as the tournament gets into the business end but Tauson looks to be the one dark horse in the competition who could test some of the best in the world this season as well.

Qualifier Sasnovich Yet to Drop a Set

While Tauson is basking in the glory of her performances last season and then again starting off the manner in which she has this year, Sasnovich has shown some form in her own right.

Starting out in the qualifying rounds, the former world number 30 – who has now fallen outside the top 100 – wasted no time in making the main draw with back to back straight-set wins. And Sasnovich then entered the second round with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over lucky loser Xinyu Wang.

Expected to be given a fight by Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson in her next match, Sasnovich raced away to another straight-set win. In a match lasting an hour and 28 minutes, Sasnovich registered a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline against the Swede, dropping her serve just once as compared to the four breaks of serves she managed.

Tauson won’t be the easiest opponent given her form but that shouldn’t take away from the fact Sasnovich is well-deserved quarterfinalist and should also help her put up a fighting show.
