Felix Auger-Aliassime v Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head

Auger-Aliassime is 2-1 against Bautista Agut. The Spaniard won their only meeting in 2019. Since then, the Canadian won in Cologne in 2020 and at the U.S. Open last year.

Auger-Aliassime Outplayed by Medvedev in Semis

He lost his opening match in the group stage against Taylor Fritz of the U.S. Then picked up a couple of solid wins against Cameron Norrie of Britain and Alexander Zverev of Germany to put Canada into the semifinals. But in the No. 1 singles on Saturday, he was outplayed by Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Canada still made it to the finals following Denis Shapovalov’s win over Roman Safiullin, and Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov’s doubles win over Medvedev and Safiullin.

Auger-Aliassime struggled to get going against Medvedev. The Russian dropped just nine points on his serve in the entire match and didn’t face a single break point, while converting 4 of 7 to win 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and 10 minutes.

The defeat came two days after Auger-Aliassime’s emphatic win over World No. 3 Zverev on Thursday. The Canadian defeated the German 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Auger-Aliassime, who went 1-3 in 2020, is 2-2 this year. He lost his opening singles match against Fritz despite winning the first set. The American rebounded to win 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. In his singles against the Great Britain, he beat Norrie 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

The World No. 11 who is coming off a terrific 38-24 season, which included a maiden semifinal appearance at the U.S. Open and a first quarterfinal appearance at the Wimbledon, will be looking to quickly overcome the semifinal setback against Medvedev and up his game in the final to strengthen Canada’s chances of claiming the title.

Bautista Agut Outlasts Hurkacz

Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut extended his unbeaten run at the tournament on Saturday, edging past Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the No. 1 singles match in the semifinals.

Pablo Carreno Busta won the no. 2 singles match as well to send Spain into a second final in the tournament, following their runner-up finish in 2020. Spain lost the doubles match but won the semifinal tie 2-1.

Bautista Agut, who won all six of his singles matches in the 2020 campaign, improved his ATP Cup record to 11-2, with a fourth consecutive win in this year’s edition on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Spaniard won a tough first set in the tiebreak but lost serve twice in the second as Hurkacz forged his way back into the contest. Both players were solid on their serve in the third set. However, Hurkacz needed to save two match points in the 10th and one in the 12th game to keep his chances alive.

Bautista Agut eventually took control in the tiebreak and finally converted a sixth match point to keep his perfect record intact.

In the three group matches, the Spaniard had beaten Chile’s Cristian Garin 6-0, 6-3, Norway’s Casper Ruud 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) and Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic 6-1, 6-4.

Auger-Aliassime v Bautista Agut Prediction and Tip

An ATP Cup veteran, Bautista Agut could keep his winning momentum going in the final against a player who struggled in his singles match on Saturday. Expect a good contest with the Spaniard beating the higher-ranked Canadian.
