Elina Svitolina v Madison Keys Head to Head
There have been four previous matches played between these two players with Svitolina and Keys winning two apiece. Keys had won their first two meetings in 2015 and 2017 while Svitolina retaliated with victories in their next two encounters in 2019.

Ranked 15th in the world, Svitolina would have expected to make some headway in the first tournament of the season last week. All she came away with was a first round defeat in Adelaide and to Anastasia Gasanova who had come into the match with odds of 6/1 for her victory.
Having won the first set in that match, Svitolina would have been expected to run through her lowly-ranked opponent but went down 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to leave her with more questions heading into the season’s first Grand Slam.
The interesting bit now is she has only this tournament in Adelaide again to get going before the Australian Open but Svitolina starts off her campaign against a former world number seven.
It won’t get any easier for Svitolina but she would know a win here against a solid opponent would give her that necessary momentum to kick-start her season.

Keys Went Down Fighting in Melbourne
After starting out with a first round victory in the Melbourne Summer Set competition last week, Keys went down in a fighting encounter against Daria Kasatkina in round round.
Following a straight-set win over Harriet Dart, Keys fell 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3 to 3/4 odds on favourite and ultimate semifinalist Kasatkina in round two.
Keys will, however, know she will need to improve a lot from how she went in 2021 to make a mark this season. The former world number seven, who has fallen to 56th at the moment, had an appalling 11-15 win-loss record last season, having ended the year with seven losses from the last eight matches.
Can she test out a player who is herself going through bit of a form rut?

This has all the makings of a stiff encounter which goes the distance. Expect a three-setter than Svitolina manages to edge through.
