Petra Kvitova v Arantxa Rus Head to Head

Petra Kvitova didn’t have the best of the starts to the 2022 season, seeing that she incurred a shocking first-round defeat in Adelaide last week. Facing Priscilla Hon, the Czech lost 7-6(4), 5-7, 2-6 in a game that was dominated largely by the Australian.
The 31-year-old is now hoping for a strong comeback in Sydney – a tournament she has conquered twice and has generally fared well here. Her most recent title came in 2019, where she defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Angelique Kerber, and Ashleigh Barty.
In the three years since then, Kvitova has bagged just two other trophies with last year’s Qatar Open being the most recent one. Her other stints in 2021 include a few deep runs in Madrid, Bad Homburg, Cincinnati, and Ostrava.
The former World No. 2 has succumbed to the #17th position as a result of this lacklustre showing. Nonetheless, Kvitova has an enviable pedigree and experience that should allow her to reach her former glory again.

Rus Eyeing a Positive Beginning
Arantxa Rus will be participating in her first professional event of the 2022 season.
Last year was a decent one for the 31-year-old Dutch as she did win the Lyon Open doubles with Viktoria Kuzmova. On the singles circuit, she enjoyed a great deal of success in the Challenger and ITF events.
Rus made it to four ITF finals (all in Spain), going to the distance in three of them. She was also the runner-up in a couple of Challenger events in Croatia and Serbia – all of which helped her end the year as World No. 61.
While Rus has made gradual leaps in the singles ranking over the last few seasons, she still lacks big wins when it comes to WTA events. But then again, she has kept her focus only on low-tier events. Perhaps, she can do something about this year.
Kvitova v Rus Prediction and Tip
Kvitova isn’t in the best of form at the moment, which just gives Rus an opening to win here. It may not be a straightforward win for the Dutch but if she can keep her unforced errors to the lower end, she just might walk into the second round.
