Jil Teichmann has had a decent stint in 2021 and is hopeful of continuing the same run further this year. She is starting her season in Adelaide as the number seven seed, in the same bracket as Aryna Sabalenka.
The 24-year-old ended last year in the Billie Jean King Cup with a win and a loss. Prior to that, however, the Swiss enjoyed a good run in the US Open swing.
She reached the final at the Cincinnati Open – her biggest feat to date – after moving past the likes of Naomi Osaka, Belinda Bencic, and Karolina Pliskova. Despite losing to Ashleigh Barty in the final, that performance propelled her into the top 40 from the mid-70s.
In the following weeks, she reached the third round in Ostrava and Chicago, thus sustaining her momentum.
As for her form in Australia, she had a terrific spell last time around. Teichmann was a quarterfinalist in the Phillip Island Trophy and a semifinalist in the Adelaide International. It is worth noting that she followed this with another semifinal feat in Dubai.
Needless to say, she will fancy her chances of delivering a good run in Adelaide once again this season.

Davis, Hoping for a Win
Lauren Davis had an early start to the 2022 season in Melbourne Set 1, where she fell to Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in the opener in straight sets. She will now look to avoid a similar fate at the hands of Teichmann.
In all fairness, that is a task easier said than done. Davis has never been among the players who have risen above their erratic form to upset the big guns. Case in point, the American ended last season with a win-loss tally of 12-16. Her sole highlight of the season came in the Nottingham Open where she was a semifinalist.
The 28-year-old also reached the quarterfinal in Guadalajara but couldn’t make much of it thereafter. Moreover, the World No. 95 hasn’t won a singles title since Jan 2017, which says all there is to know of her form.
Teichmann v Davis Prediction and Tip
The smart money would be on Teichmann and the prospects of an upset here are quite low. Expect the Swiss to win this one comfortably.
