Tamara Zidansek v Madison Inglis Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 24-year-old Slovenian, and the Australian, who is a year younger.

Clay Court Specialist Zidansek

Zidansek is primarily known as a clay court player, reaching her first Grand Slam semi-final at the French Open last June and, the following month, claiming her maiden senior WTA title I Lausanne.

Hr year began last week in Adelaide, where she was beaten in the first round by Mari Sakkari, the world number six, although she did have the satisfaction of taking the second set off the Greek woman to love.

This time, she was given an easier opening round match, at least on paper, against the qualifier Heather Watson of Great Britain, the world number 74.

Watson though started the stronger recovering from an early break of serve with three breaks of her own to take the first set.

The pair swapped breaks early in the second set, but then Zidansek began to take control, and two more breaks allowed her to level the match.

The third set went first one way and then the other, both women at one stage gong a break ahead. In the end though it came down to a tie-break, and although Watson saved one match pint, Zidansek made the second one count.

Australian Wildcard Beats Lucky Loser

For Inglis, who usually spends her time on the ITF tour, this is her second successive appearance in the main draw in Adelaide.

Last week, she came through two rounds of qualifying, only to lose to the American Shelby Rogers in the first round, beaten easily in straight sets, winning just four games.

However, she has gone one better than that this time.

Spared from the rigours of qualifying this time by being granted a wildcard, she faced Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, a woman who was knocked out of the qualifying event, but took her place in the main draw as a lucky loser.

Kovinic began the match as favourite, ranked 44 places higher than Inglis in the world, but it was the Australian who started the stronger, with to early breaks of serve. The Montenegrin recovered one but not the other and Inglis took the first set.

She was not able to sustain that momentum in the second set, though, and two service breaks of her enabled Kovinic to level the match.

In the third set Inglis had to save two break points, and immediately took advantage of that capitalise on that as Kovinic dropped her serve.

And serving to stay in the match, she was broken once more as Inglis claim a morale boosting victory.

Zidansek v Inglis Prediction and Tip

Both women had to survive three set matches to get this far. Inglis has the advantage of playing in front of a home crowd, but with more than 100 places between them in the world rankings, Zidansek should be too strong for her, although it would not be a surprise if three sets were needed again.

Tip: Zidansek to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
