Karen Khachanov v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head

This will be the first ever meeting between Russia’s Khachanov and Rinderknech of Finland.

Khachanov with a Solid Start to the Season

A finalist in Adelaide last week, Khachanov seems to have continued from where he left off with an easy win in his opener here.

The Russian, who had a first round bye, came through in straight sets against Gianluca Mager in his second round match on Tuesday, needing an hour and 10 minutes in his encounter. He won 7-5, 6-3 to clinch his place in the last eight.

Serving up 13 aces, Khachanov won 32 of his 34 first serve points, and that ensured he did not face a single break-point in the entire encounter.

And all he needed was two breaks of serves – one that came late in the first set and the second in the six game of the next one – helping him through to the quarterfinals.

And coming on the back of wins over Steve Johnson, Egor Gerasimov and Marin Cilic last week, Khachanov will be pleased as a punch coming into this encounter.

Rinderknech Coming off Lacklustre ATP Cup

While Rinderknech struggled through most part of the ATP Cup he represented Finland in, he has had a much better start to this week’s Adelaide International.

Ranked at his career-best of 58th in the world, Rinderknech has needed a couple of three-setters alright but come through with back to back wins to make it to the last eight stage. The Finn defeated Mackenzie McDonald in his opener before overturning a one set deficit against Soon-woo Kwon in the second to carve out a place in the quarterfinals.

Rinderknech won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted exactly two hours, slamming 18 aces and facing just the one break-point – which his opponent converted in the first set – before breaking Kwon three times.

And while Khachanov might not be the easiest opponent to face, a three-match winning streak – including a victory in the final ATP Cup round-robin match against James Duckworth – should make this an interesting contest.

Khachanov v Rinderknech Prediction and Tip

Khachanov is 1/2 to win this and that is not too much of a surprise given his recent form but Rinderknech has shown what he is capable of. Expect him to push his opponent in this one.
