Rinderknech Makes Second Career ATP Semi-Final
Rinderknech is into his second career ATP semi-final, having reached the same stage in Kitzbuhel last year.
And, after two tough matches against Mackenzie McDonald of the USA, and Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea, both of which went to three sets, he can take a great deal of satisfaction from the nature of his quarter-final victory over the number three seed and Olympic silver medallist Karen Khachanov of Russia.
In the first set serve dominated to the extent that points against it by other man were rare, and no opportunities to break presented themselves.
In the subsequent tie-break, Rinderknech moved a mini-break ahead, and then it was the Russian’s turn, before fortunes fluctuated once more and the Frenchman had a set point. Khachanov saved that but not the second that arrived moments later.
The Russian then put himself in trouble by dropped his opening service game of the second set. To his credit he fought back to level, but then was broken once more.
Serving for the match, Rinderknech saw two match points saved, and then had to save two break back points himself. However, when a third match point presented itself, he duly converted it.

Qualifier Moutet’s Fine Week in Adelaide
Moutet was a top 70 player two years ago and reached the final of the Qatar Open, before several years of struggles with form saw his ranking dip.
However, he will take great encouragement and believe better times may be ahead, after what he has achieved in Adelaide this week, even in the qualifying competition where he beat the experienced Spaniard Roberto Carballes-Baena.
Since then, he has played three matches, all against higher ranked opponents, without dropping a set.
He began by beating Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany, the world number 50 in the first round and then achieved an even better result by defeating the Hungarian world number 38, Marton Fucsovics.
His quarter-final pitted him against Thiago Monteiro of Brazil, currently the 83rd ranked player in the world.
Moutet was on top from the start, forcing Monteiro to save five break points in his opening service game. Although he could not take advantage then, he was unchallenged on his own serve and, when another break point came along, he was able to convert it this time, serving out for the set.
For the only time in the match, Moutet’s serve briefly came under pressure in the second set, and he had to save a break point. But, having done that, he soon broke Monteiro again, and there was no way back for the Brazilian after that.
Rinderknech v Moutet Prediction and Tip
Whatever happens, it is guaranteed that one of the Adelaide finalists on Saturday will be French. As a qualifier Moutet has done very well this week, but this may be Rinderknech’s big opportunity to take the next step in his career.
