Madison Keys has made it to her first semifinal on the WTA Tour in precisely two years. The last time she was at this stage was right here in Australia – in Brisbane 2020. She moved on to reach the final and settle for the runner-up trophy.
Keys was then ranked the World No. 13 – way ahead of her present position at the #87th spot. The 26-year-old has spent the better part of the two years battling form inconsistencies and trying to avoid early-round exits.
After ending last season with 11-15, Keys seems to be on the way to make up for those losses. After losing early last week in Melbourne in round two to Daria Kasatkina, the 2017 US Open finalist has made it to the semifinal here in style.
In the first round, she knocked out the number two seed Elina Svitolina with 6-2, 6-4, followed by a straight-set rout of Tereza Martincova. In the quarters, she met the number eight seed Liudmila Samsonova and moved past her with 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
At her peak, Keys was a formidable opponent and if her current run is akin to that of the past (or better), Gauff may be in real trouble here.

Gauff Knocks out Konjuh
Cori Gauff made easy work of the 24-year-old Ana Konjuh in the quarterfinal. The American teenager needed just an hour and 22 minutes to reach the final four with 6-3, 6-4.
Seeding number three, Gauff has been fairly impressive in Adelaide so far and has done well to overcome her early loss at the same venue last week. Her other victims this week include Katerina Siniakova (6-1, 6-2) and Marta Kostyuk (6-3, 5-7, 6-3).
Gauff had a remarkable run last season, ending the year with 34-16 and winning the title in Emilia-Romagna. She also reached the latter rounds in the Canadian Open, Italian Open, and French Open – in addition to being a doubles finalist at the Flushing Meadows with Caty McNally.
Just 17 years of age, she is already the world number 19 and is quickly becoming an expert in the game. She packs a tight serve and as displayed in the past, she is a force to be taken seriously.
Gauff v Keys Prediction and Tip
Keys has the experience and right now, form – making her a superior player heading into this fixture. If she can survive the early onslaught from Gauff, she may move on to win the match.
